Keith Barnes is a professional commercial photographer. Areas of expertise covered include product, advertising, brochure, event, pr, conference, corporate and wedding photography. He established the Photographers Workshop in 1982 to offer a wide range of photographic services to the business and academic communities and the general public in Oxford. We scan film up to 5 x 4 and prints to A3 size, much of this service is used by keepers of archives who have prints or films that need digitising. We copy and manipulate images to improve or restore original films and prints, this allows us to provide a copy service for old and damaged photographs. We scan film up to 5 x 4 and prints to A3 size. We also offer a photographic service to artists, photographing paintings, drawings etc, sculptures, embroderies, installations, in fact anything created as art. As part of this service we regularly work in colleges and other organisations recording the art and treasures they have for record, publication and insurance purposes. Our company The Oxford School of Photography, runs evening classes, group courses, one day workshops and bespoke teaching for companies and organisations.
We have been making beautiful and impactful images for business and the academic community for 25 years, our clients include colleges, faculties, industry, manufacturers, event organisers, conference organisers, design, advertising and marketing agencies. We also offer a wedding service and have photographed hundreds of weddings around Britain and elsewhere in the last 15 years. Below are a selection of our very varied portfolios. Because my day job is as a commercial photographer, this is often a technical task without a lot of freedom to make the pictures I really want to make. Some 20 years ago I photographed a friend's wedding, I was not the 'real photographer' he organised groups, shouted a lot and generally took command for about 2 hours. I photographed what I saw about me, the connections between people, the genuine emotions that special occasions bring, the incidental and the amusing. Later I realised what pleasure I gained from making photographs that were more than bottles of wine or hard hats and so since 1989 I have been photographing weddings.
We have run courses in photography since 1982, then it was all film based, now predominately digital. Although our great love of photography has mourned the demise of film we have embraced the new technologies and applauded the options they bring. We offer courses in digital camera use, Photoshop, portraiture, studio, and composition. Our courses are held at Oxford Brookes University. The evening classes run 3 times a year and last 4 weeks each course. We also run day workshops, provide one to one tuition and organise seminars for companies and organisations who need their staff to understand digital photography. Examples of these are Oxfam and estate agents, and groups of school teachers. We have a program for schools who would like a short introduction to digital photography for students. We have also provided creative photography workshops for team building days. We organise bespoke courses for individuals and small groups. If you, or work colleagues, need to learn but cannot attend an evening class this might be an option for you. Tell us what you want to know, we will do the rest.
