• Letting Shop Letting Shop Review

  We have had a very bad experience with the letting shop - they have been very unhelpful with the numerous problems that we have had with our house. <P>There was damp in a downstairs bedroom that was not rectified until 6 months after we moved in, despite the fact that they could have easily done the work before we moved in, as they knew there was a problem. <P>The tenant who had to live in the room with damp received little compensation of rent from the landlord (who is coincidentally also the owner of the letting shop...), and she only received this small amount after making numerous attempts to contact the landord, eventually resorting to a solicitor. <P>This, and many other things, for example poor fitting of late-arriving new double glazing, constantly broken and blocked toilet and drains as well as a huge list of other recurring problems that seem to be perpetually lost in the letting shops cavernous administrative filing system have led us to believe that the letting shop have not provided us with the competent service that we would expect from a business who describe themselves as 'the home of student letting'. <P></P> <P>

• Letting Shop A Damp Experience

  We are 6 third year Brookes students who have lived in Letting Shop property for the last 18 months. <P>They found us a property, but only because the original property we had selected from them was not going to be ready to live in, even though we had been assured it would be. <P>Since then, they have been no help whatsoever throughout the numerous problems we have had with our property. <P>These problems included rising damp (in 2 out of six bedrooms), poor drainage that they have refused to acknowledge as their responsibility, despite numerous warnings from the local Environmental Health Officer, and a list of repairs that was given to them by us over a year ago (and has been updated and resubmitted by us), which they have mostly ignored, only fixing a minority of these problems. <P>Also, an electrician tested the electrics in the house, after we had moved in, and found that over 50% of the electric system was not safe. This included live wires in bedrooms, polarised plug sockets and exposed (and potentially very dangerous) electrical fittings in the bathroom (the light fitting had not been waterptoofed). <P>The tenant who lived in one of the bedrooms with damp in had to live in the room for 4 months before it was fixed, and then had to move out of her room so it could be fixed, although this could have been carried out before we moved in, or over the Christmas holidays. <P>Overall, we have had a very bad experience with the Letting Shop, and would not recommend them as a competent student letting agency. <P></P> <P>
