60 High Street,
these guys are absolute morrons, wouldnt use them. They just mess you about. Use at your perill...
The Letting Shop have been no help whatsoever. They have "lost" around £100 of our deposit, which we have no way of claiming back because they wrote the receipt out incorrectly and we did not notice until some time later. They do not take credit cards or cheques and refused a bank transfer for the retainer fee - Alarm bells should have been ringing that they only accept cash. They require a gaurantor for every tennant, regardless of the individual's letting history, as well as an "academic reference" - Without the latter the deposit is far higher. This is causing complications for one of our housemates who has not yet been confirmed a place at the university, but will be living with us anyway.
We have had a very bad experience with the letting shop - they have been very unhelpful with the numerous problems that we have had with our house.
There was damp in a downstairs bedroom that was not rectified until 6 months after we moved in, despite the fact that they could have easily done the work before we moved in, as they knew there was a problem.
The tenant who had to live in the room with damp received little compensation of rent from the landlord (who is coincidentally also the owner of the letting shop...), and she only received this small amount after making numerous attempts to contact the landord, eventually resorting to a solicitor.
This, and many other things, for example poor fitting of late-arriving new double glazing, constantly broken and blocked toilet and drains as well as a huge list of other recurring problems that seem to be perpetually lost in the letting shops cavernous administrative filing system have led us to believe that the letting shop have not provided us with the competent service that we would expect from a business who describe themselves as 'the home of student letting'.
