21 Westgate Shopping Centre, Queen Street, City Centre,
Sainsbury's is a large chain of supermarkets with branches all over the UK stocking an extensive range of dairy products, fresh vegetables, meat, frozen foods and much, much more. Also, Sainsbury's has become the first European grocery chain to offer Skype eVouchers through a network of 500 stores throughout the UK. This branch is located in Westgate Shopping Centre and also has a car parking facility.
Sainsbury's in the Westgate Centre has improved enormously since the introduction of self scanning tills. It has reduced the time taken to checkout in peak periods by around half in my estimation, and now is on par with non city centre locations. The whole place seems more organised and smooth running since the introduction of scan it yourself.
Terrible at lunchtime, Marks and Spencers just next door doesn't require a half hour wait.
Avoid this place like the plague at lunchtime. Only half of the tills are ever working and no staff to help you find things, you will have to wait a minimum of 20+ mins between 11.30 - 14.30. Much less busy once the staff have come back from their lunch breaks!
You have to be very careful about timing your visit to this branch of Sainsbury's. Set in the Westgate Centre in the heart of Oxford, it's absolutely rammed during term time - though to be fair they usually have the staff on hand to keep your queueing down to under 10 minutes. It does have the advantage of having the massive Westgate Centre car park literally on its doorstep, but unless I lived in the town centre, or was going to shop in town for something else I wouldn't take a special trip to this particular branch, as there are larger Sainsburys supermarkets on the ringroad and on the way to Kidlington.Having said that, it was my 'local' supermarket for a year, and a very good one too.
